[  ][  ][  ][  ][Edit] Background and contextAfter the notorious terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, the United States government has pursued various active antiterrorist policies. The term "Global War on Terror (GWOT)" was coined, and the world has focused on how best to combat terrorism. Within a few years after the initial 9/11 attacks, the state of international affairs regarding terrorism has shifted drastically, and it is hotly disputed whether the war on terror has been successful or not. As there is no absolute standard for measuring success of antiterrorist policies in the status quo, this debate is very nuanced and multi-faceted. |
