Global climate change debate portal

From Debatepedia

Jump to: navigation, search

This portal is dedicated to debates that relate to solving global climate change. While of use to the general public and decision-makers, this portal was created to assist debaters involved in The People Speak Global Debates between October 1st and 30th of 2008. The debate topic for the contest is: "The world should adopt our plan to significantly combat climate change". We encourage eligible high school students to sign up.

Below is a list of debate articles breaking down the pros and cons of the primary approaches to solving global warming.
A plan is likely to include some but not all of these approaches. The best plan would emphasize a mix of the below proposals that contains the greatest strengths and the fewest weaknesses. Your job is to analyze and compare the pros and cons of the below approaches and put together what you think is the best and most defensible mix of proposals. Keep in mind that this is not simply an exercise. The world does need to find a solution to global climate change. You can help.

This portal should also prove useful to debaters involved in the The National Public Policy Forum (NPPF), which takes place between October 2008 and April 2009. The topic: "Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase alternative energy incentives in the United States." Eligible high school students can register here.
