Should humans pursue the development of smart AI (Artificial Intelligence)?

[Add New]

Yes

-It could help us defend against a hostile alien race (by implementing them into our weapons, vehicles - autonomous - and so forth). (No doubt it could possibly be our Artificial Intelligence against theirs).

No

-It could potentially, for what ever reason, attempt to wipe out, enslave, or otherwise pose a threat to the human race.

In light of the previous subquestion, what shall be concluded?

Pro

That we should develop smart artificial intelligence in order to protect us from a hostile alien race, but that we must be very careful to always keep them under our control.

Con

It is true that we are safe as long as we keep them under control. But a slight mistake or stupidity from one of us can lead to complete destruction of mankind. By using artiical intelligence for war can be a big risk that could affect every single human being on this planet in a good or bad way. Plus, nothing in this world can be perfect. We will always some traitor who might get their hands on the high-tech robots, and use it to harm others, esp terrorists, who might use these to seek revenge, or certain demands. As a result, putting million of innocent civilians lives at risk.
