Malaysian Polytechnic School Debate Training

Politeknik Tuanku Sultanah Bahiyahin (PTSB) in Kulim, Malaysia will be hosting a British Parliamentary Debate training for students and lecturers from October 30, 2008 to November 2, 2008. The event is designed to introduce students and Polytechnic lecturers to debate and some of the more important concepts in argumentation and adjudication. It will be led by Elizabeth Humphrey (International Debate Education Association), Azrul Izzam, (International Islamic University of Malaysia debate coach) and Kye Hanafiah (IIUM debater).

Training Team
The Kulim workshop will be led by three trainers. Elizabeth Humphrey debated for Willamette University from 2003-2007, was a Fulbright grantee to South Korea from 2007-2008, and began working for IDEA full-time in 2008. Azrul Izzam was a semifinalist in the Asian University Debating Championship, and was a three-time champion and best speaker at the Royal Malaysian Debate. He is currently a debate trainer and adjudicator from the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM). Kye Hanafiah, a web intern for IDEA, is in her final year at IIUM. She has been involved with Asian Universities Debating Championships, Australasian Intervarsity Debating Championships, MMU's Women's Intervarsity Debate Championship as both a debater and as a judge.
